Irish President Michael D Higgins was taken to hospital after feeling unwell.

The 82-year-old was assessed by medical doctors at his house, the presidential residence, Áras an Uachtaráin.

Nonetheless, in accordance with Irish nationwide broadcaster RTÉ, he was taken to hospital for additional assessments as a precaution.

Higgins grew to become president in 2011 and was re-elected in November 2018.

Wednesday night offered the 2024 Volta Lifetime Achievement Award to director Steve McQueen on the Dublin Worldwide Movie Competition.

In an announcement, a spokesman for Áras an Uachtaráin stated that Mr Higgins was initially assessed on the presidential residence, the place “no fast concern was recognized, however the determination was made to go to hospital to endure to the assessments, whose preliminary outcomes have been constructive”.
