A part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after being hit by a big container ship, sending automobiles into the Patapsco River, authorities mentioned.

The Baltimore Metropolis Fireplace Division advised CBS Information that at about 1:30 a.m., 911 calls began coming in saying a ship had hit a bridge column. It was not clear what number of autos had been on the span, however “there was positively a big tractor-trailer” on it.

“There are at the very least seven folks” within the river and “the diving and rescue group arrived on the scene to find the people.”

Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott mentioned on social media that. “I’m conscious and en path to the incident on the Key Bridge. … Emergency personnel are on the scene, and efforts are underway.”

Baltimore County Govt Johnny Olszewski Jr. mentioned on social media that “Rescue efforts are underway. Please pray for these affected.”

The division mentioned on its scanner that there was a variety of diesel gasoline within the water across the ship.

The Maryland Transportation Authority mentioned all lanes had been closed in each instructions resulting from an incident on the I-695 Key Bridge.
