The Dodgers on January 29, 2024 signed left-hander James Paxton to a one-year contract value $11 million, including a left-handed starter to a pitching workers that was largely right-handed.
Paxton had a 4.50 ERA and three.77 xERA in 19 begins for the Pink Sox in 2023, with 101 strikeouts and 33 walks in 96 innings. It was his first season since April 2021 Tommy John surgical procedure.
The 35-year-old lefty over 10 main league seasons has a 3.69 ERA, 3.46 FIP, 112 ERA+ and 932 strikeouts in 850⅔ innings.
With the Dodgers, Paxton can earn as much as $2 million in bonuses, together with $1 million if he’s on the lively roster on Opening Day. He can earn $250,000 for every of 16 and 18 begins, and $500,000 if he makes 20 begins.
Paxton is the third beginning pitcher added by the Dodgers this offseason, becoming a member of free agent Yoshinobu Yamamoto and commerce acquisition Tyler Glasnow, who signed a five-year contract as a part of the deal. Paxton joins a rotation that features these two plus Walker Buehler coming back from Tommy John surgical procedure, Bobby Miller, and a gaggle of rookies with robust latest performances within the minor leagues.
