Neve Campbell recently shed more light on her decision to leave the Scream franchise that made her famous.
Speaking with People, the 48-year-old actress doubled down on previous comments about walking away from her role as Sidney Prescott due to a salary dispute.
‘I love this franchise. I’m so grateful for it, but at the same time, I really just couldn’t bear the idea of walking onto it and feeling undervalued,’ she explained.

Campbell announced in June that she would not be joining the rest of the cast for the sixth installment of the thriller.
And she reiterated that it was solely due to not being paid the amount of money she felt she deserved for her contribution.
‘I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years,’ she told the publication.
‘And as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.’

Neve emphasized she felt she was lowballed due to gender inequality: ‘I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.’
‘And in my soul, I just couldn’t do that,’ she added while speaking openly with the news outlet.
‘I couldn’t walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that.’

In June the star announced she wouldn’t be returning for the next blockbuster.
‘Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,’ she revealed. ‘As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream.
‘I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,’ she continued.
‘It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.’

Campbell has played protagonist Sidney Prescott in all five of the Scream movies since 1996, having most recently reprised the role in the reboot that was released this year.
The most recent revival of the movie, released in January, brought back original stars Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette – and made $140million at the box office against a $24million budget.
The next iteration will see newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega.
Prior to her official departure announcement, Campbell told Entertainment Tonight that she was unsure about returning for the sixth film saying: ‘I don’t know if I am,’ adding that she ‘can’t get into it.’
