Illicit drug trafficking damages the atmosphere and threatens essential habitats for dozens of migratory chicken species and its human penalties, scientists say.
Two-thirds of the areas which can be most essential to forest birds – together with 67 species of migratory birds that breed in the USA and Canada and winter in Central America – are at better danger than l 'cocaine smuggling exercise, in response to the report revealed in 2012. Journal Nature Sustainability.
Lead creator Professor Amanda Rodewald, senior director of the Heart for Hen Inhabitants Research on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, New York, stated: “When drug traffickers are pushed into distant forested areas, they land on land to create touchdown strips, roads and cattle pastures.
“These actions – and the counter-drug methods that contribute to them – can deforest landscapes and threaten species.”
Researchers from 4 universities, in addition to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, mixed measures of panorama options and the focus of migratory birds in Central America to spotlight the sudden connection between drug trafficking and biodiversity.
